Africa Smart Cities & Townships Alliance (ASCA) Introduction The Africa Smart Cities C Townships Alliance (ASCA) is a global public-private partnership dedicated to advancing comprehensive development projects across Africa. The ASCA fosters innovative growth in major cities and rural areas through collaboration, technology, and sustainable development strategies. Background The ASCA was proposed by the World Smart Cities Forum (WSCF) as an extension of the Global TWIN CITIES Initiative (TCI). TCI, a collaborative smart city implementation platform, was launched among 25 global cities during the OXYGEN Summit in New York City in 2024. Five African cities—Casablanca, Dakar, Mombasa, Benguerir, and Konza Technopolis—are currently participating in the TCI. The Launch of the ASCA and Expansion Goals The ASCA is set to be officially launched in Kisumu on August 20-22, 2025, and aims to expand its reach to: 15+ cities attending the first ASCA Convention – Benguerir, Casablanca, Fes, Kisumu, Mombasa, Konza Technopolis, Kigali, Kampala, Mwanza, Lusaka, Bukoba, Musoma, Jinja, Bujumbura, Goma, Kinshasa, Dakar, etc. Observing countries and international organisations out of Africa will also attend: UK, South Korea, USA, India, Ǫatar, UNDP, African Development Bank, World Bank Group, etc. 20+ cities will attend the ASKA Summit Korea in the last week of October 2025 during APEC Summit in South Korea Comprehensive growth towards 2030 Core Focus Areas ASCA will prioritize development in the following key sectors: Water Management Waste Management Healthcare Agriculture Renewable Energy Education Digital Transformation Artificial Intelligence Cultural Content C Sportainment Affordable Housing Milestone 2025 The ASCA Inaugural Convention in Kisumu, Kenya on Aug 20-22, 2025 Kick off the Blueprint of the project from June 2025 The ASCA Committee attending New York Workshop in September or October The ASCA showcase during the APEC Summit in November, Seoul C Incheon, South Korea Master plan: 6-12 months Conclusion : Through the ASCA, Africa will embrace a new era of urban C rural development, integrating cutting-edge technologies and sustainable policies to enhance the living conditions.
